History
BLACKJACKS was founded on September 13, 1967. Since that time it has flourished with success, and met with failure. It was first started at P/R Company R-7 in Warrensburg, Missouri. Here it grew to a viable organization for eight years. Then, in the summer of 1975, the Headquarters was moved to the MacDonald County High School in Missouri. For a little over a year the Headquarters existed there. Then, in the fall of 1976, PERSHING RIFLES National Headquarters took over the organization. Little was done with the society during this period of relocation. Then, in the spring of 1977, Fourth Regimental Headquarters, PERSHING RIFLES, made a bid for the National Headquarters BLACKJACKS. Consequently, on 9 April 1977, the National Headquarters was established at Clemson University, Clemson, South Carolina.
The National Society of Black Jacks
The purpose of BLACKJACKS is to promote a brotherhood of High School level Drill Units, which are patterned after the college level brotherhood of Drill Units, PERSHING RIFLES. Also, the purpose is to promote the ideals of General John J. Pershing, patron of the organization of PERSHING RIFLES. The official colors of the BLACKJACKS are Black and Gold.
