The Advisory Board

 

      The primary purpose of this advisory board is to advise and assist the individual or small group responsible for planning, organizing or administering organizations and their programs.

The advisory board must have wide spread representation of they are to achieve maximum effectiveness.

This advisory board will perform many of the same functions as the governing boards. The major difference is that they give advice rather than set goals and policies. Functions of this advisory board are:

  1. Assist the policy-making authority by recommending relevant policies for specific programs.

  2. Help mobilize community leadership for activities sponsored by the organization

  3. Provide a talent from which to draw future governing board or program volunteers ensuring stability of the organization within the community.

  4. Assist in improving public relation through linkages with civic, business and other community representatives.

  5. Provide additional and possibly more objective source for evaluating programs and policies.

  6. Assist in determining the need for new programs

  7. Provide technical assistance on matters outside the organization’s competencies.

All members of this organization, governing and community board and staff must work closely together to maximize the organization’s potential.
